Unai Basurko on-board the Open 60 ‘Pakea’, finished 3rd in the 2nd Leg of the Velux 5 Oceans solo around the world yacht race on 23rd March at 19:20 local time. The performance is an improvement for the young Basque skipper. Basurko commented “It has been a very difficult leg and we are all pleased to be here. To finish second or third is important, but the most important is to finish. When you finish you have everything. When sailing in Southern Ocean and you round Cape Horn and you are tacking up the Atlantic and you arrive here and you are finished. You are so proud it is fantastic”.

Basurko was welcomed by family and friends. He will have some time to rest and repair ‘Pakea’ while the remainding comptetitors arrive. The final leg of this most gruelling of sailing events will take place from Norfolk on April 15th and will end in Bilbao. This is the home city of Unai Basurko and many fans will be awaiting his arrival. He is confident of keeping up his position against Sir Robin Knox-Johnston with his experience of the North Atlantic and has promised that he will wait for his comptetitor with a good glass of wine in Bilbao. Well, it’s still a long way to go.
