The Wobbly Club ‘Build Your Own Boat Contest’ is on Friday

February 15th, 2007 by yachtbud

The Wobbly Club of Catamaran Club, Falmouth Harbour, Antigua, is holding it’s 4th Annual B.Y.O.B. build your own boat contest on Feriday 16th February, 2007. It’s a good fun event where the most un-orthodox and deliberately un-offical ‘yacht club’ invites all yachties and friends to build a craft and sail, row or somehow propel it around the Catamaran Club. The results are hilarious!

When entering the contest you get some light plywood, a few nails, a roll of duct tape, string, garbage bags and sail cloth if you beg. You then get two and a half hours to build the MCA, Lloyds Certified vessel (starting 12:00 noon). The Le Mans style start takes place on Shelly Beach at 16.30 hours. The style is a free for all no-rules type of affair. Well, the organisers have asked you not to use your outboard engines! Up to 25 teams are expected.

Meanwhile the bar will open at 14:00 hours with some helping sponsorship from English Harbour Rum, Bavaria Beer and Best Cellars Wine. The Wobbly Club was formed several years ago around a small round wobbly table in what was “Jimmy’s Bar”, Catamaran Club. A bunch of yachties and friends were taking a bit of laugh at the seriousness of the Antigua Yacht Club. The idea is that no rules should apply. Anyone could become a Commodore as long as you bought the table a round of drinks! So, Come enjoy the fun!
