Sir Robin Knox-Johnston arrives in Norfolk, Virginia

March 31st, 2007 by yachtbud

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston sailed the Open 60 ‘Saga Insurance’ into Norfolk, Virginia, yesterday evening at 19:43 local time at the end of the brutal 2nd leg of the Velux 5 Oceans around the world sailing event. Sir Robin was at sea for 75 days during which time he turned 68 years old and proved his worth against the younger skippers.

Sir Robin commented “This leg has been a nightmare but I am just pleased it’s over. I thought that it might be over 2 days ago but the weather decided otherwise. I think Unai has been in church praying for adverse winds for me.” Sir Robin now has two weeks to rest and get the yacht ready for the final leg of the race. On 15th April the 3rd and final leg of the Velux 5 Oceans will start. It is a fast paced Atlantic sprint to the finish in Bilboa, Spain, and the end of the toughest solo sailing race circumnavigating the globe. For more visit www.velux5oceans.com
