Sailing on a fast Flying Tiger in Antigua

August 22nd, 2007 by yachtbud

Two weeks ago I was privilaged to be invited sailing on Sven Harder’s new racing yacht, Flying Tiger 10 m “Forty Two”. The 32 ft design by Robert Perry and associates has been built in China and is very affordable. Hull number 42 is the first to arrive in the Caribbean. It was shipped in a 40 ft container and assembled in St. Maarten. Now, with a huge red spinnaker emblazoned with logos for Newspaper Direct (Sven’s media business) and Landrover (partner John Gill’s dealership in Antigua), this boat flys! We were doing a very respectable 23 knots downwind during trials. She is light and fun to race on.

Photos taken by Roddy Grimes-Graeme of Acquafilms can be viewed in a Slideshow. Sven is seeking sponsorship for Flying Tiger ‘Forty Two’. He hopes that others will also purchase Flying Tigers and that match racing can take place in the Caribbean. Contact: sven at ndcaribbean.com. Below is a video compilation of photos of the delivery and trials. The photos on this page were taken by me on another day out.
