Antigua Sailing Week 2007- Photos Day 1

The 40th Stanford Antigua Sailing Week started on Sunday with fine winds. 204 boats in 16 divisions started. The Races were from Falmouth Harbour to Dickenson Bay. Division A, consisting on the racing fleet set off in a counter-clockwise direction on a course of 35.4 nautical miles around the Atlantic side of Antigua. Division B set off in the clockwise direction on the sheltered Caribbean side, and downwind. Many of the cruising classes were soon flying kites. The following are provisional results from the official site of Stanford Antigua Sailing Week for the first day’s racing.

In Racing I Volvo 70 with Mike “Moose” Sanderson, ABN AMRO ONE continued her Caribbean victory parade with a first position. Surprisingly Cookson 50, Chieftain came second in corrected time before Tom Hill’s Titan 12, followed by Open 60, Artemis Ocean Racing, and then three Swan 601’s- Jim Swartz’s Moneypenny, Leonardo Ferragamo’s Pioneer Investment, and Sir Peter Ogden’s Spirit of Jethou.

In Racing II Division 44ft. Caccia Alla Volpe entered into an inshore tacking duel with the Melges 32 Chippewa. Chippewa moved ahead once she had the right downwind conditions. Chippewa was first with Avia Willment’s Rodgers 46, Universal Marina next, Soca 43, Storm third and Caccia Alla Volpe 4th.

There was another surprise in Racing III. Russian skipper Mikhail Mouratov’s Swan 48, Murka corrected out ahead Clay Deutsch’s Swan 68, Chippewa. In Racing IV, the 10 boat Beneteau 40.7 class, Lazy Dog came out tops. In Racing V Dave Hanna aboard the Olson 30, Lost Horizon II, came first. In the Multihull Racing Class, Division A, the leader was Travis McGarry’s Gunboat 62, Looking for Elvis.

In Division B, Andrea Recordati’s Wally 80 Indio was first in Performance Cruising I; James Huddleston’s Oceanis 445, Three Harkoms, was first in Performance Cruising II; and in Performance Cruising III, top honors went to Bernie Evans-Wong’s Cal 40, Huey Too.

In Cruising I, the Morris 48 Firefly, skippered by Cuyler Morris, was top of the 16-boat fleet. Cruising II was led by the Moorings 445, Chess, skippered by Jan Soderberg. The Multihull Cruising class was topped by John Winter’s 80-foot catamaran, Fat Cat. Georg Ondrej and his Dufour 50 Heliodore was the leader of the 17-boat Bareboat I class. Bareboat II was led by Christophe Nielsen’s Oceanis 473, Rossi. In Bareboat III, Hans Christian Wuff on the Beneteau Cyclades KH+P was first, and Fury, Martin Sager’s Dufour 40 was first in Bareboat IV.
