Another Classic Win for Saskia in The Metre Regatta

July 28th, 2007 by PennyTyas

As you may well know, the Metre Rule of yacht design is 100 years old this year, and to celebrate, the UK Mecca of yachting, Cowes has been hosting a number of regattas for 6-Metre, 8-Metre, Classics and any number of yachts that fit the mold. Unfortunately two days were lost due to bad weather, and only three of the scheduled six races were sailed, and the last race taken over a shortened course.
‘Saskia’ a 76 year old 8-Metre classic from the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, took first place only one week after claiming victory in the 8-Metre Centennial World Championships in Scotland.
In the 6-Metre class Classic division was won by British boat ‘Titia’, and the 12-Metre class was taken by a former British America’s Cup challenger ‘Crusader’.
‘Saskia’ will remain in Cowes for Skandia Cowes Week which is due to start on August 4th.
