ALINGHI LOSES BATTLE

November 27th, 2007 by PennyTyas

Statement from Alinghi, SNG and AC Management
2007-11-27

Today’s decision against the validity of the Club Náutico Español de Vela (CNEV), the Challenger of Record, is a disappointment to the Société Nautique de Genève (SNG), AC Management (ACM), Alinghi and the seven entered Challengers affected by the outcome.

There will now be a thorough review of the Judge’s decision and an analysis of the various options offered by the Deed of Gift.

Ernesto Bertarelli, President of Alinghi, says: “We are disappointed that a technicality made the CNEV invalid and we are now looking forward to discussions with the Golden Gate Yacht Club to keep the America’s Cup functioning.”

ARC Yacht Rally underway to St. Lucia

November 26th, 2007 by yachtbud

After days of preparations and partying the 22nd Atlantic Rally for Cruisers started in a Carnival like atmosphere. Some of the boat crews were in fancy dress. Crowds on the dock cheered loudly and local brass bands paraded and added their music to the festivites. A total of 235 yachts sailed from Las Palmas. The rally across the Atlantic ends in St. Lucia, about 2,700 nautical miles away.

The weather was fine at the start despite a small shower. A swell is running and 20 knot trade winds from the North are set to continue. The 22 yachts in the RORC IRC Racing took off 20 minutes ahead of the Cruising Fleet.
