Friday 1st June,2007. This week in the podcast we talk to Andreas Hanakamp, the skipper of the Russian entry for the next Volvo Ocean Race, we hear from Rob Greenhalgh after he and the rest of the Basilica crew win the first Extreme 40 regatta of the summer, Peter Rusch gives us his regular letter from Valencia as we look ahead to the final of the Louis Vuitton Cup while British Laser ace Paul Goodison looks back at the recent Olympic class regatta in Holland and ahead to next week’s European Championships.

Monday 4th June, 2007. Today is a rest day in Valencia and time for the teams to reflect. Emirates Team New Zealand are in the lead by 3-0 against Luna Rossa Challenge. Says New Zealand’s Barry McKay:“One of our big priorities is doing what’s important right now to prepare for the next day. So we’ll spend some time together, probably not all day, but some time together, talking about the next race and what we need to do.”

Irish Revenue staff carried out 89 inspections in 2006 at ports including Bantry, Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Tralee and Waterford. This was up from 48 checks in 2005. The inspections resulted in the recovery of €998,770 in VAT and penalties. According to the Revenue Commissioners annual report for 2006 the amount is two-thirds more than in 2005. Despite warnings the amount of penalties being imposed on owners has increased. Over the last five years nearly €3m has been recovered by Revenue in unpaid VAT and penalties.
