The ‘Cruise to Hawaii’ event this weekend was well attended. Sunday was perfect beach weather. After tucking into a scrumptous meal and several powerful Rum drinks we joined in a Charity Auction to benefit ‘Amazing Grace Foundation’, a home for people with special needs. Piggy and his side-kick Dicky did a good job of auctioning all the donated items. Well done to Liz and all the AYC helpers. Thanks to Island Provisions for contributing to the fundraising. Earthrace, the futuristic biodiesel powerboat, has fared badly at the start of her World Record Bid. She has currently dropped to a speed of 12 knots due to damage sustained by the carbon propellers. The Race started in Barbados at noon on the 10th March and encountered trouble after 16 hours. The carbon propellers are of a type used by submarines. They are designed to cause less vibration and to be more efficient. But at 1 a.m. the propellers began to cause a vibration.

Corporate executives, chief financial officers and procurement directors alike have become wary of accepting invitations to golf outings, customer retreats or lavish dinners from key suppliers. Although a standard practice just a few years ago these occasion for intimate client bonding have become suspect in an environment where professional decision making is under an ethical microscope.
