MIKE GOLDING, OBE

Mike Golding has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours in recognition of his heroic rescue of colleague Alex Thomson in the Velux 5 Oceans Solo Race.

Golding turned back 80 miles, despite lying second, on hearing that Thomson, lying third, was adrift in a life raft in heavy seas, 1000 miles from the Cape of Good Hope.

MICHAEL PARHAM, 14 year old SOLO TRANSATLANTIC SAILOR DUE ON 2^ND JANUARY, 2007

Michael Parham, just 14 years old and hoping to break the record for the youngest sailor to cross the Atlantic solo, has only about a week to go before he sails into Falmouth Harbour and moors at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. He left Gibraltar on 18^th November, 2006, on “Cheeky Monkey, a 28ft trailer sailor, shadowed by his father, Peter, in an identical boat. 

Mike has been sailing since he was seven and has, to date, covered several thousand sea miles. The current World record challenge will give him an additional 3,500 miles under his sea boots.
